Get Involved In Our Worship Services

St. Matthew's has many opportunities for you to become involved in its worship services. They are:

    Lectors:
Parish members read the assigned scripture passages for each of the worship services on Saturday and Sunday. If you are interested, contact Jo Darrington at the church office (402) 435-2226.

    Acolytes:
Boys and girls, fifth grade and older, serve as acolytes at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service (three youth are needed for each of these services). Acolyte training is provided. Contact Elizabeth Esseks if your youth is interested in serving. Call the church office and leave a message for Elizabeth, (402) 435-2226.

    Eucharistic Ministers:
Eucharistic Ministers assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at all weekend liturgies. Membership in the parish is a first step to be taken towards this ministry. Training and licensing are required and provided. Eucharistic Ministers are asked to be flexible in weekend scheduling. If interested, please contact the Rector at (402) 435-2226.

    Ushers:
Ushers serve at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services. Ushers greet people at both entrances to the Sanctuary, help with seating, distribute bulletins, and take up the offering. If interested, call Michael Browne at (402) 435-2226.

Greeters: Greeters welcome worshippers at the North and East doors of the church for both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services. Visitors are encouraged to sign one of our guest books and--if they wish--are shown how the service bulletin guides their use of the Book of Common Prayer and The Hymnal 1982. If interested, call Dick Esseks at (402)-310-1540.

    Altar Guild:
The Altar Guild is responsible for:
    • Preparing the altar for four services each week plus special services during the year.
    • Decorating the church at Christmas and Easter.
    • Assisting with funerals, weddings, baptisms, and confirmations.

    • If interested, call Marcia Stewart at (402) 429-6529.

The overall-scheduling of volunteers for each of these worship ministries is coordinated by the church secretary, Jo Darrington at (402) 435-2226 or jodarrington@windstream.net).
