Youth Ministries
The fall of 2011 marks the beginning of the fourth year of a program for spiritual formation of youth entitled The Journal to Adulthood. It meets regularly during the school year at St. Matthew's on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm. We always start with dinner and fellowship and then have a program using the Journey to Adulthood Curriculum. This program is divided into three modules: Rite-13 for youth in 6th and 7th grades, J2A for youth in 8th to 10th grades, and Young Adults in Church (YAC) for youth in 11th and 12th grades.
This program's objectives are to:
provide a liturgical framework for the teenage experience of modern culture,
celebrate young people's individuality and their creative potential, and
offer training in some basic life skills needed for adult living and interaction (such as active listening, negotiation, research and information management, and leadership).
In addition to participating in the program at St. Matthew's, our youth may take part in Diocesan programs each year, such as Mission Trips, Summer Camp, Happening (based on Cursillo), and Rallies. Every third year the youth attend the "Episcopal Youth Event."
Father Gavin and Sarah Grubb are the co-facilitators for Rite-13, while Don Rabbe and Pam Eby lead the J2A and Young Adults modules. For further information, contact the Church Office (402-435-2226).
